Be Good to Me & I'll Be Good to You
John West & Yvonne Wall Duet as found on the album
Yvonne Wall
John West
This song took less than 10 minutes to write. I always love when that happens. This song has a good message for couples. The song emerged from the thought, "If you don't say it, you won't have to take it back."
I had heard Yvonne Wall sing at a local songwriters meeting and asked her if she wouldn't mind singing one of my songs. She gladly did and did a wonderful job. Later on, I decided to try and turn the song in to a duet at the suggestion of my wife. It seemed to flow well even though when we both sang it alone it wasn't the intention. A few quick edits in the studio and wa la, a duet!
Baby Be Good to Me & I'll Be Good to You
Songwriter - John West
Album - I Wish I Was A Mexican
If you don't say it
You'll never have to take it back
If you don't lie
You won't have to cover your tracks
If you don't hurt me
You won't have to apologize
Show up on time
There'll be no excuses and lies
Chorus -
Baby why don't you just play it smart
Baby don't break my heart
Baby you know what not to do
Baby be good to me and I'll be good to you
If you don't go there
You won't have to come back
There's no reason to get defensive
It's not an attack
If you don't keep secrets
There's nothing to hide
If you really love me
I'll be by your side
Chorus - (Repeat)
Bridge -
Baby oh baby
I know you know what not to do
Baby oh baby
I know you know what to do to

Baby be good to me and I'll be good to you
